CBS Twitter Accounts Hijacked, Hackers Tweeted Fake Messages

Hackers are on the move again and attacked Twitter accounts of CBS network’s 60 Minutes and 48 Hours, tweeting bogus messages claiming US is supporting terrorist group.

The hijacking of accounts happened on Saturday and tweeted “Exclusive: Terror is striking the #USA and #Obama is Shamelessly in Bed with Al-Qaeda” using the 60 Minutes account. Other account 48 Hours retweeted the statement in their feeds, too.

There were a couple of messages made by the hijackers using the 60 Minutes account such as mentioning the heated issues about the Syrian Propaganda. The tweets read “the US government is sponsoring a coup in Venezuela and a terrorist war in Syria,” and “Obama wants to destroy the Syrian and American people. We must stop this beast.”

CBS later then tweeted after finding out about the fake tweets and confirmed that their accounts were hijacked. In their main CBS twitter account, they tweeted “We have experienced problems on Twitter accounts of #60Minutes & @48Hours; We apologize for the inconvenience; Twitter is resolving issues,”

With the cooperation of Twitter, the network gained the control again of the hijacked accounts and immediately removed the tweets. But just hours later, the accounts were hijacked again but Twitter suspended them temporarily.

The network is currently working with Twitter to fix the problems. Other reports claim that Syrian Electronic Army is the group responsible with the hijacking of accounts. Same group was also responsible in hijacking other big network twitter accounts such as Reuters, BBC, etc.
