Reported from a Korean newspaper, Microsoft and Samsung are going to announce their collaboration next week at Microsoft’s Build conference in California.
The Tablets from Samsung will handle the Windows 8 version, the Korea Economic Daily said citing an industry source.
The source also reported that, “This new product manufactured by Samsung will be the company’s first collaboration with Microsoft in its hardware devices…”
Samsung and Microsoft did not give any comments on the said report.
Microsoft has already gave glimpse of the latest OS – Windows 8, ahead of the conference, and the documents that leaked on June suggested a version of tablet computers, optimized for low-power ARM processors was in development. This strategy by Microsoft would be in contrast to Apple Inc., which is improving their iOS mobile operating system for smartphones and tablets, with its PC operating system OSX – separate.
The company Microsoft has long been attempting to challenge the many tablets based on Google’s Android operating system and Apple’s iPad which is already dominating the market.
July last year, Steve Ballmer, the company’s chief executive stated that making the tablets was “job number one” but not followed with major announcements.
Collaboration with Samsung can be a great change in the mobile computing landscape. Samsung already builds smartphones that runs with Windows Phone 7 but based their tablets on Google Android operating systems.
