The Apple iPad is set to overcome new area: the cockpits of US-based Alaska Airlines.
The domestic airline proclaimed that it would give the 1.5 pound iPads to their pilots in place of 25 pound paper flight manuals that pilots bring through out every time they fly.
It is first major domestic airline to utilize the iPad rather than paper manuals, according to a statement by Alaska Airlines.
Pilots will be using a “GoodReader” app loaded with PDF files of “41 flight, systems and performance manuals, reference cards, and other materials. The electronic manuals include hyperlinks and color graphics, enabling pilots to find information faster and easier.”
The Federal Aviation Administration accepted the use of iPads rather than paper charts.
