Mercedes Unveils SLK 55 AMG

mercedes-benz-slk-55-amgMercedes chose this weekend to reveal the all-new SLK 55 AMG, the most influential SLK ever, prior to its official debut at the IAA.

The latest Mercedes SLK 55 AMG is powered by a non-turbo edition of the latest bi-turbo V8 that powers the bigger stuff, CLS63 and S63 for instance.  It may have lost its turbos, yet it still has plenty to bring.

The 5.5 liter M152 engine makes 422 PS and 540 Nm of torque, which allows the car to go from 0 to 100 km/hour in 4.6 seconds and reach at a limited top speed of 250 km/hour.  So in terms of performance, it’s way over the top.  However, what makes it actually special is the economy feature, which makes it one of the most efficient V8s presently in production.

This V8 has a clever AMG Cylinder Management cylinder shut-off system which depending on the driving status could mechanically neutralize two or four of the eight cylinders. That in mixture with the mode “C” – Controlled Efficiency in the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC auto transmission, and the stop/start function give the car a standard fuel consumption of 8.4 liter per 100 km which is surprising for a car with level of performance.

As for the looks, the SLS-inspired design may not look all that good in the pictures, but it is really fabulous is you see it in person, and new AMG body kit just makes it better.  We totally love the interior, with the two-tone leather upholstery and that awesome new steering wheel covered with Alcantara, it is just extremely welcoming for a performance-minded driver.

The 2012 SKL 55 AMG is certainly completely loaded with items similar to the Magic Sky Control roof, Pre-Safe system and DISTRONIC PLUS, as well as NECK-PRO crash-active head restraints,  three-stage ESP and as well as ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection.

And the price for all this is 72,590 Euro in Germany.  The car will debut in Frankfurt Motor Showin in September, and will go on sale early on next year.

  1. I bought a 2009 SLK 55 AMG here in the US, last august. I am planning to move to Europe next year, around September. I would like to know how much would it cost to change everything from miles to kilometers, from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and whether would I have to do it in Mercedes USA or Mercedes Europe.
