Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President, guaranteed that the killers of a French hostage in Niger will be punished by the authorities. Sarkozy also stated his warnings to the people of France to avoid going to Africa, especially in the northern part of the Sahel region.
Sarkozy made a live appearance on television on Monday. This was due to the confirmed death of a French national, retired engineer, Michel Germaneau. He became al-Qaeda’s hostage, and eventually, they killed him. Sarkozy stated that Germaneau’s death should have justice; this is “to condemn a barbarous act, this odious act which has just left an innocent victim dead.”
Prior to this, on Sunday, a member of the al-Qaeda group appeared on Al-Jazeera television.
