Warner Brothers Sued for Using Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat in Scribblenauts

One of the biggest movie studio in the world, Warner Brothers, is now facing a lawsuit against an internet meme creator. The issue is about two cats who were included in a video game by Warner Brothers without the creators’ permission.

The feline-theme memes in the internet were named as “Nyan Cat” and “Keyboard Cat” and the video game in the issue is Scribblenauts. It is a series of games for various game platforms including Nintendo DS and etc.

The lawsuit filed against the media giant as well as 5th Cell, the game developer, is trademark and copyright infringement.

The Cats

Nyan Cat is an internet meme uploaded in the popular video site, YouTube, in 2011. According to a description, Nyan Cat is a cat that has a “body resembling a horizontal breakfast bar with pink frosting sprinkled with light red dots”. In the video in YouTube, it flies across in the screen leaving a trail of rainbow in its path. And Keyboard Cat is simply a cat playing music on the keyboard which was uploaded in YouTube in 2007.

Both these videos gathered millions of views though some people find it irritating. The creators of these characters registered them for trademark protection.
